Overview
UCSF's Data Library team reached out to me to create a new visual identity, homepage, and design system for its catalogue of biological medical data.
During the project I created multiple rounds of visual identity directions, finally settling on an icon containing the morse code for I and O (input and output) and hidden within a D and L form. The color scheme embraced the vibrance of the UCSF parent brand palette with a few select additions to create a two color based system for generating schemes for library "themes" which contain focused areas of research. I also explored how this system might be used to generate digital library cards for contributors and users of the library that are created when the user creates an account. The design system contains many different elements, but the most advanced components are for the project entries and project browser that allows the user to explore individual projects within the library and get access to them. Since this project was fairly long, we designed in a phased approach where the first iteration of the site is a single page, with future releases to contain more detailed listings for each project.
A flythrough of the MVP site experience built by the in-house UCSF Data Science CoLab team.
