U.S. OSG Loneliness Advisory

I provided art direction and web design for the U.S. Surgeon General's landmark advisory on America's loneliness epidemic, including creating the final cover design for the official document, as well as the art direction and physical designs for the Surgeon General's Made to Connect Tour across college campuses around America. After exploring multiple cover design concepts, we selected a metaphor showing isolated individuals within crowds to symbolize loneliness, with all designs created using the web 3D tool Spline and finalized in Adobe Illustrator. For the website's art direction, we conceptualized social connection as a garden requiring consistent care, creating a visual language that translated this metaphor across the site. While initial designs included web 3D scenes to create engaging interactive moments, these were ultimately replaced with static visuals to meet accessibility standards. For the Made to Connect Tour, I designed 3D scenes for Made to Connect Cards, which contained small actions that someone could take to increase their social connection with others. I created a box for printed cards that Vivek took on tour with him, along with supporting printed elements for the tour. I also developed animated floral scenes that appear as static elements on the live site but were designed with motion capabilities. Additionally, I created the visuals for CeCe, a furry asterisk mascot for the Office of the Surgeon General, complete with a comprehensive visual library, web 3D animations, and a composable set of expressions and emotions triggered by keypress interactions, establishing a friendly, approachable character that makes appearances throughout the site. We used many of the garden animations and elements inside of an unreleased prototype for a social connection quiz.
