Overview

Postcards from the future was a set of illustrated postcards distributed at CoLab's 2019 Blueprint event. CoLab's finest prognosticators got together to tell made up stories about possible fictional futures. The postcards could be sent via the mail to anyone you know from the future you choose.

Postcards from the Future was creative futuring exercise for the CoLab team that involved crafting short stories written from the perspective of individuals in hypothetical futures sending postcards to present-day readers. For the Blueprint 2019 event, we created 16 distinct future scenarios aligned with our annual focus areas, which I complemented by dressing as a futuristic postman at the event to personally deliver and narrate these imagined futures to attendees. To extend the physical experience, I designed a companion website featuring the complete collection of postcards in digital format. Each postcard featured unique vector illustrations I created to visually represent the narrative contained on the reverse side, providing a cohesive visual and storytelling package that made abstract future concepts more tangible and personally relevant to the audience.
